Teacher Evidence

According to the new Clark County Teacher Appraisal Evaluations, I have to provide evidence that I am meeting or exceeding the standards they have set in place to evaluate teachers.  Here is my evidence so that it can be viewed by administration and parents alike to evaluate my performance.

Instructional Practice Standards
Standard 1: New learning is connected to prior learning and experience.
Objectives are stated on the board in student friendly "I can..." statements and are stated at the beginning and end of lessons.
Standard 2: Learning tasks have high cognitive demand for diverse learners.
I use a 3-tier model for both math and reading stations. Stations are differentiated according to each groups ability, however; all groups work on the same skill.
Standard 3: Students engage in meaning-making through discourse and other strategies.
I have been through the 5 day Kagan Cooperative learning training and use many Kagan strategies throughout the day and school year.  Students are also encouraged to show their thinking through multiple representations.
(Kagan structure "fan-n-pick")
Standard 4: Students engage in metacognitive activities to increase understanding of and responsibility for their own learning.
Students' progress in the "100 sight word Challenge!" is monitored on the goal board where students can track how many sight words they have learned as their "ship" moves across the "water".
Students also get to color in a square on their "Kindergarten Goals" form when ever they show they master a standard.

Standard 5: Assessment is integrated into instruction.
Reading, writing, and math groups are fluid.  If a student is successful in one group, he can stay their, but his day to day performance in that group is assessed through teacher observation, anecdotal notes, and work samples so if I see a need for the child to move groups he will.  If I notice an entire group is not understanding a skill, that is my cue to reteach it.
One-on-one writing conferences are done [almost] daily.  Anecdotal notes from the conference are taken and grades come directly from daily writing.

Professional Responsibilities
Standard 1: Committed to the school community.
I am the the kindergarten grade-level chair, the chair of the talent show committee, the RTI person for kindergarten,  I am an active member of both the PTA and behavior team, and I am the kindergarten inclusion teacher for the Special Kindergarten class.
My class preformed a skit and sang songs during the after-school Fall Harvest Festival.
Standard 2: Reflection on professional practice and growth.
In March 2015, I attended a Kindergarten Writing professional development.
In August 2015, I attended the "Jump Start" Reading professional development.
During summer 2015 I participated in an online book study of "Good-bye Round Robin" by
Michael Opitz and Timothy V. Rasinski.
During March and April 2016 I attended several professional development opportunities focused around Debbie Dillar's Book "Making Small Groups Work".
I am a finalist for the Heart Of Education (2016) award.
Standard 3:Professional obligations.
I was on time and attended all required meetings and professional development days.  I took on the leadership role of kindergarten grade-level chair person.
I coordinated and secured funding for a field trip to the Magical Forest on 12/10/15 for all of kindergarten.
I coordinated and ran a school-wide book exchange during Nevada Reading Week.
I secured and distributed a donation of 5 books per kindergarten student.
Standard 4: Family Engagement.
I send home monthly newsletters and family projects.  I also utilize the "Remind" app to send occasional reminders to parents who have signed up for it. PirateKindergarten.blogspot.com is also maintained and loaded with resources for parents such as websites, tips, and downloads of class materials.
Standard 5: Student perception.
On 11/11/15 on student said "Mrs. Kountapanya, you must really want us to be smart 'cuz you sure make us work hard!"
On 3/11/16, when asked by administration, one student said "Mrs. Kountapanya wants me to know all the letters, sounds, and sight words so I can be a good reader."  and another student said "My brain got bigger when I started kindergarten because I learned lots!"
